Preserving Journalistic Standards in the Age of Digital Transformation

How can digital technology contribute to the production of quality content in journalism? What has happened to gatekeepers in news media? How can editors and reporters preserve their autonomy and the culture of journalism? These are the key issues to be addressed at the international conference which will take place at the premises of the Budapest Goethe-Institut on 5 December 2016. The event is co-organized by the Center for Independent Journalism, the Hungarian Editors’ Forum and the Goethe-Institut. Participation is open upon registration till Monday, 28 November 2016.

Attack on the President of Croatian Journalists’ Association, Saša Leković

Saša Leković, president of the Croatian Journalists’ Association (HND), noticed that his car was damaged while driving on 27 October 2016. The auto mechanic told Leković that “two screws on the front right wheel were damaged with a saw”. Had he not slowed down and stopped the car, the screws would have broken, states HND on its website. In their response HND’s executive board characterised the incident as an assassination attempt. …read more »

Freedom of Expression Grant for journalists

Journalists can apply both individually and in team for the Freedom of Expression Grant funded by the European Center for Press and Media Freedom. The application deadline is 21 September 2016. Video Journalism and Digital Storytelling Workshop

The Center for Independent Journalism (CIJ) held a workshop showcasing trends and practices in the constantly changing and growing video journalism environment for freelance journalists and media students on 18th May 2016.
